Fitness - Winning the Battle of the Bulge

If you do not keep a sharp look out, trying to win the battle of the bulge could very well turn out to be one of those frustrating on-going battles that spans years if not decades. You starve your self under the mistaken notion that that is a sure way to defeat that stubborn fat, but what do you know – a few days or a few weeks later the fat returns, refreshed, re-armed and more stubborn than ever before.

The key to long-term fitness and weight loss is to try and win the whole war and not the small battles. Change tactics! Replace your main weapon, which has been starvation all this time with a whole new arsenal that includes good nutrition, a healthy lifestyle and a modicum of exercise.

Good nutrition

Low-calorie and nutrient dense; fish, fresh fruit, whole grain cereal, olive oil and fresh vegetables are a must in any weight loss program. They help maintain the metabolism of your body without any significant increase in calories.

Cut down on all sweets and definitely give up all kinds of junk foods and fizzy drinks- they literally endorse an age-old saying, “A moment on the lips; a lifetime on the hips”.

Exercise

In your ongoing battle against the bulge, physical activity is the one factor that can tip the scales in your favor. Tired of pounding the pavements or running on the treadmill and going nowhere? Join up for belly dancing or salsa classes instead. Go swimming, go trekking, go mountain biking, go anywhere your feet take you; just get up and go.

The key is to choose an activity you enjoy- that’s the only way you are likely to stick with it long enough to win your battle against the bulge. The effect can be electrifying and is sure to get rid of the fat faster than anything else ever could.
