Though hair loss is very commonly seen in both men as well as women, there is not yet any sure-fire way to cure it. However, here are some suggestions for natural remedies that have worked to prevent hair loss to a certain extent.
Massage
People in certain parts of the world who have regular head massages are known to have long, lustrous hair. Gently massaging the scalp for about 3-4 minutes a day helps stimulate the flow of blood to the hair follicles, which in turn promotes hair growth and keeps minor hair loss in check. Traditionally scalp massage is done by gently kneading the fingers into the scalp, but there are electric massages now available that can also be used. Using a small amount of herbal oil when massaging the scalp can help.
Aromatherapy
Aroma therapists recommend massaging the scalp with various combinations of essential oils that help stimulate the scalp and promote hair growth. Though it depends on the pattern of hair loss as well as the severity, a popular combination that works for all consists of 6 drops each of essential oils and lavender oil blended into 4 ounces of soybean, sesame or almond oil. The mixture is left to stand for about 15-20 minutes, after which it can be used to massage the scalp.
Saw Palmetto Extract
Saw Palmetto extract, which is used in the treatment of prostrate diseases in men, works by reducing DHT levels in the body. High levels of DHT is one of the known causes of androgenetic alopecia and Saw Palmetto is now being used effectively to help prevent hair loss.
Healthy Diet
Maintaining a healthy diet is one of the best ways of keeping your hair healthy. Including foods such as chickpeas, soy beans, almonds, cow’s milk, fish, oat and whole wheat provides your hair with the vital vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients.
